As the winter sets in, you may think there’s no seasonal produce to be found. But this isn’t at all true! Citrus season is in full swing now! Good thing too with all that additional Vitamin C they provide when you’re shut away indoors from the cold. Then on the veggie side of things, cruciferous vegetables are bountiful and available. They’re typically high in iron, which means they pair great with the also seasonal citrus. Root veggies also are stars of the winter, both filling and long lasting, if stored properly. Incidentally, kale (really in season, a hearty green) is actually a relative to your broccoli and Brussels sprouts. While we may be longing for sweet summer fruits and a bounty of summer squashes, there’s still plenty for your plate that will be at its peak taste right now. And planning your meals around seasonal produce will help keep your grocery bills under control.
