Fall is in full swing! And while in North America many are gearing up for Thanksgiving, most of the seasonal produce items are available in the entire Northern Hemisphere. (It’s Springtime on the other side of the equator.) Winter squashes are plentiful and abundant. Nuts are at their peak harvesting time. And citrus is starting to come into season too. Many items that have been made available year round are actually in their peak at this time, including turnips and sweet potatoes. Look for the seasonal produce to have lower prices as their abundance increases the supply.
A thing of note, fresh pumpkins are working their way out of being in season by the end of the month. If you’re wondering how that plays with the traditional pumpkin pie for Thanksgiving, let’s just say it’s being frugal using up that last good pumpkin to make a pie. Also, the citrus will start coming into season closer to December than hugging up against Halloween. There’s a reason kiddos used to get oranges in their stockings.
